Document Summary

Behaviorists propose that psychologists should study observable, measurable behaviors. They study what organisms do and the circumstances in which they do it. Ex. if a monkey bares its teeth and makes loud noises after the following events the behav. Pavlov"s classical conditioning: dog makes and association with the sound of the bell and food, so every time he hears the tone of the bell he will still salivate despite the sight of food or not. Neutral stimulus: stimulus that does not cause a response that you are measuring. Ex. the sound of the bell causes no response. Unconditioned stimulus: stimulus that causes and unconditioned response. Ex. dog salivating at the sight of meat. Repeated pairings of the neutral stimulus and the unconditioned stimulus will produce a conditioned response to the neutral stimulus. Ex . sound of bell with the meat makes the dog salivate. The neutral stimulus becomes the conditioned stimulus for the conditioned response.
