Early psychologists were interested in studying the mind. Around 1920, the focus shifted to studying behavior. Psychology: is the systematic study of behavior and experience. Look for changed in behavior as a function of experience (stimulus) Ex: exposure to violence on tv, leads to violent behavior. Reliability- use same measurement a lot, will you get the same answer. Techniques lead to discoveries, which lead to ideas (hypotheses/theories) Confidence in the conclusions depends on the strength of the research. Dualism- the mind and the body both exist. The mind is separate from the brain, but it controls it an the body. Monism- conscious experience is inseparable from the brain. Some concept of god, self, and possibly geometric axioms.
