Document Summary

The turing test- tests machine"s ability to have human intelligence. People"s opinions of what computer can or can"t do based on scientific induction. They haven"t seen computers do anything before, so they don"t think they will ever be able to (since they"ve never seen it before) But is an intelligent computer actually intelligent or just a simulation of intelligence. We don"t know what"s going on in our minds when we are having creative thoughts, but if we knew then we could use that as an algorithm. Turing said that if we reduce test just to observable what would you think bc it"s not like we have proof that other humans have logical processes. Objection: it"s possible to program a computer to simulate intelligence but preprogramming responses to every question- called canned responses. Answers are good because answers are written by an intelligent person. In principle, turing test could be passed bc in principle anything humans do can be programmed.
