Document Summary

Turing"s argument for disability - computers can"t be intelligent bc they can"t do one thing. Cognitive psychology is a rational rebellion against empiricism. Names based more on what they look like not what they do ie cortex = rind . Broca"s area - part of the frontal lobe, discovered from patients with injury who couldn"t use language (paul broca) First clear evidence of cortex doing higher thought. Certain areas of the brain do different functions. Hemispheres (right and left) each contain 4 lobes. Connected by the corpus callosum (huge bundle of axons) Handedness - 50% of the left hand people process languages on the left side, 50% on the right. People think left handedness means increased creativity bc they use different sides of the brain. Parietal lobe = attention (focusing on a task, visual field, volition to complete task, etc) Frontal lobe - highest level of cognition, planning, decision making.
