Document Summary
09. 14. 15 neuropsych lecture 4 - parts of cns, meninges, csf, blood supply. Seven basic parts of the cns: spinal cord. Orders to muscles travel through: medulla oblongata. Includes nuclei for several autonomic centers: pons, cerebellum - little brain , midbrain. Visual and auditory reflexes are coordinated: diencephalon. Contains thalamus and hypothalamus: cerebral hemispheres. Frontal lobes - control of movement, judgment, reasoning, thinking. Phylogenetics - the study of evolutionary relationships b/w different groups of organisms. Forebrain - neocortex, basal ganglia, limbic system, olfactory bulb, lateral ventricles. A series of three membranes protecting the cns. Dura folds and divides brain into hemispheres and separates cerebrum from cerebellum. Overlies every detail of the outer brain. Steps: produced in the lateral ventricles, circulates around lateral ventricles and third and fourth ventricles, gets into subarachnoid space, circulates around brain. Contained within four brain ventricles (csf buildup results in hydrocephalus) Floats the brain so it doesn"t crush arteries and veins under the brain.
