Method: subjects rated the attractiveness of photographs of faces and of various digital composites of those faces. Results: found the average of the population was most attractive. (what you"re used to seeing) ^ conclusion: composite photo seen as attractive by people from the same culture. Familiarity ?? what we often or normally see. Descriptive or statistical: frequency of occurrence: abnormal is rare. Prescriptive: how people ought to be: abnormal is violation of rules. Functional: fosters successful, healthy life: abnormal is dysfunctional. Context and attractiveness judgments of attractiveness are influenced by social comparisons. Method: male subjects interacted with a female confederate who was either attractive or unattractive. Results: subjects rated themselves as more attractive in the presence of the attractive other.
