Document Summary
Fast mapping- pick up on a word by hearing it once or twice. Grammar- rules for how to create understandable sentences. Morphology- how to change words and change their meaning, ex. adding -ed to make past tense, adding -s to make a word plural. Different from piaget- he wanted to describe and explain the universal steps kids go through while developing. Psychometric approach is more individualized- studies how that individual does cognitively. The iq number is comparative, in comparison to your agemates. For a measure to be reliable- it gives you consistent results over repeated testing. Iq is something that is relatively stable- should be constant. If it is measuring something else, it is not valid. Iq test- predictive validity- not perfect in terms of validity- but does determine school success pretty well. Other factors can determine school success- socioeconomic status, iq score and socioeconomic status are related.
