Chapter 8: dissociative disorders and somatic symptom-related disorders. Symptoms are recurrent and persistent when they have it. People and objects seem distorted (walking down the street, you look at cars and people and see distorted, seem like robots your own perception gets skewed) Depersonalization: experiences of detachment from one"s mental processes or body as though one is in a dream. Professor had an incident where you was reaching to the tv and she didn"t recognize her arm for a few seconds. If you can"t get out of it that is a problem because it can"t be a disorder (happens excessive stress, marijuana, etc) Symptoms are not explained by substances, other dissociative disorders, or another psychological disorders. People who experience these often have a personality disorder, depression, or anxiety disorder. Might be triggered by something (usually is) and they are unresponsive in the dissociative state.
