Document Summary
Schizophrenia affects approximately 2. 4 million adult americans. Not the same as multiple personality disorder (did) People with schizophrenia are not any more violent than anyone else. During hallucinations not talking to themselves (they are talking to somebody , it"s real to them) Many have insight they know they have the disorder and know what"s going on. People with insight tend to be more depressed than someone who doesn"t know they have the disorder. Things are much more vivid (sounds are super loud) Begins in late adolescence or early adults. Downward drift > many people that have schizophrenia are born into middle/working class families (no one wants them, they can"t make money) eventually end up on the streets. Age of onset men: isn"t really shown until early adulthood (the peak) Age of onset women: a little later than men; but there is a peak around 45-49. A little more prevalent in men than in women.
