Tend to see girls with inattentive adhd and boys with hyperactivity. Girls are diagnosed sooner than boys if they present symptoms of adhd-hi bc it"s socially unacceptable. Common presentation of adhd-hi amongst girls is incessant talking. Girls tend to internalize their academic failures more than boys. Boys tend to externalize their academic failures more than girls. Girls are more concerned with social world than boys. George still md felt that symptoms of adhd were due to brain atrophy or disfunction. Emerges at the same time and same areas of other neurodevelopmental disorders. Dopamine dysregulation in much of the brain, mainly in the frontal lobe. Cns lags behind by 2 - 4 years compared to their peers. Once they"re moving, it"s hard for them to stop. This happens due to lack of myelination. Frontal lobe isn"t myelinated until early twenties. Prefrontal and temporal tissues are thin and takes 5 years to catch up.
