Acute grief upon loss of a loved one (identity/social role confusion, benign hallucinations, disengagement, disbelief, increased risk of health problems, increased risk of developing mood, anxiety and substance use disorders) Intense longing / emotional pain, preoccupying thoughts, disbelief, can"t imagine a good future. Affects 2-3% of the population, often due to sudden and/or violent death of loved one. Effectiveness of antidepressants not studied much (but people are often given antidepressants) Adapting to the loss may take time, waxing and waning of symptoms.
