Trying to find a cry of desperation among the facebook drama. 30-40% of college students experience a depressive episode each year, only 10% seek counseling. Signs of being at risk can be detected in facebook posts. National suicide prevention hotline: facebook users can report content as suicidal. Some psychotherapists have access to client"s facebook accounts discuss certain posts during therapy. Teachers and parents can help struggling teens and college students based on facebook posts. Acute grief upon loss of a loved one (identity/social role confusion, benign hallucinations, disengagement, disbelief, increased risk of health problems, increased risk of developing mood, anxiety and substance use disorders) Intense longing / emotional pain, preoccupying thoughts, disbelief, can"t imagine a good future. Affects 2-3% of the population, often due to sudden and/or violent death of loved one. Effectiveness of antidepressants not studied much (but people are often given antidepressants) Adapting to the loss may take time, waxing and waning of symptoms.
