Americans worry about the wrong things, glassner. Organizations, key properties of bureaucracy and how they operate. Irrational type of fear, glassner used as example, thinks it is not reasonable to worry about civilian nuclear power or commercial airlines ying in the u. s. De ne worst case in body count if we have a lot of experience (terrorist attack, Titanic) others we de ne as worst case (hurricane katrina) not by terms of body count, by severity of situation. Its rare because society doesn"t disappear because a building catches on re, focuses speci cally on norms and social structure. We tend to estimate as more likely than actually the case, after airplane crashes people worry more about airplane crashes.
