Most adolescents age out of crime between 17 and 22. There are juveniles that commit serious crime that never mature out of crime. These people are known as chronic offenders. Chronic offenders were first identified by wolfgang. At the age of 18, arrest records show: 6% of males in birth cohort were responsible for of all serious crimes. A handful of males in any birth cohort are responsible for most of the serious crimes committed by teens. Wolfgang followed the cohort until age of 30. Divided into 3 groups for follow up. Offenders as juveniles and adults (career criminals) Persistent offenders responsible for 82% of serious adult crime in the twenties. Found chronic juvenile offenders were most likely to become persistent offenders / career criminals. Some criminals focus on identifying chronic juvenile offenders and cracking down on them as a way of preventing future crime. However still can"t predict when criminals careers will end very well.
