Normal anxiety when danger or future threat. Anxiety disorders when have symptoms of anxiety for no good reason. Ocd people have to perform same action in same exact way. They obsess with doing things in the right order. Generalized anxiety disorder: please god, don"t let the ceiling fall down on my head tonight . Small, intimate bands of 150-200 people: when you see a stranger, it"s probably someone who wants to harm you, take your property, kill you. Genes developed to adapt to ancient, not modern circumstances. Humans designed to function in small groups of intimates. No strangers; strangers were a source of danger. Now, many interactions with strangers: riley gets in the situation on the first day of class where everybody"s looking at her and she becomes intensely anxious. She won"t be harmed by her classmates in school, but she"s still very anxious even without any objective danger in her environment.
