Does the burden of commuting cause challenges for intimate relationships: hypoth: higher commute leads to lower relationship satisfaction, but what do these concepts mean? (satisfaction, relationship, etc. ) Conceptualize: a mental image that summarize a set of similar observations, feelings or ideas: key terms and what they really mean for your study. What does it mean to be 22 yrs old, what does it mean to complete high school, what is gender. What do we need to better conceptualize from my research questions: commuting burden, relationship satisfaction, intimate partnership. We match the term to a careful definition: descriptive/exploratory research helps us see patterns, explanatory/evaluation helps us research theory and make it testable. Operationalization is needed to make these concepts usable: ^ the process of specifying the operations that will indicate the value of cases on a variable. Aka identifying or creating measures/attributes to relate to concepts. Constant does not change in the study (ex. have a cohabitating partner)
