Colonial expansion and the ideology that formed the united. 1732 british expansion into georgia occurred after cleared settlements from the coastal region of present-day new england to carolinas. Long-term settlements at jamestown and plymouth plantation in the mid to late 1600"s. These settlements then spread to the carolinas. The english moved further into georgia by squatting on indigenous lands, mostly that of the cherokee nation. Georgia technically part of spanish occupation called guale . Tensions between spanish and english continued to rise because they were both trying to claim land in north america. Squatters continued to squat on indigenous lands to claim ownership of them. Rangers at forefront of ethnic cleansing to clear region for british settlement. English and spain agents attempted to persuade the cherokee nation to fight on their sides if war erupted.
