In 520 bce, persian emperor darius conquered north-west india. In 327 bce, alexander of macedon destroyed the persian empire in india. The art became in a hellenistic style. The ruler of the mauryan dynasty was chandragupta maurya. Maurya took advantage of power and overthrew the magadha rulers. Legend states that maurya retired to become a monk and starved himself to death. Maurya expanded the kingdom and created the first unified indian empire. The mauryan dynasty lasted from 321-185 bce. The government recorded in arthashastra which was the manual of political statecraft. The policies of the government were like the domestic policies, persian style.
