ENS 303 Lecture Notes - Lecture 24: Cubitus Valgus, Olecranon Fossa, Biceps
Document Summary
Elbow: assist the hand in attaining the appropriate position for function. Forearm: rotation to place hand in correct functional position. Function: prevents valgus displacement, primary stabilizer, prone to injury with throwers. Function: supports radioulnar joint, guides pronation and supination . Carrying angle: 15 degrees of cubitus valgus. Cubital fossa - area where we bend the elbow. Biceps tendon, medial nerve, and brachial artery run through there. Median nerve - funny bone - between olecranon and medial epicondyle. Triceps brachii long medial and lateral head. Anconeus: pulls and prevents pinching of joint capsule. Biceps contract concentrically as the agonist to lift the weight. As the elbow extends to lower the weight, biceps contract eccentrically as the agonist to lower the weight slowly against gravity. Triceps remain relaxed and are still the agonist. Supine elbow flexion w shoulder flexed at 90 degrees. Triceps contract eccentrically as the agonist to lower the weight slowly against gravity.
