ENS 307 Lecture 17: ENS_307_COP(b)_Notes
Document Summary
Lecture 17 - motor control and learning: conditions of practice (b) Conditions of practice: mental practice, distribution of practice, variability of practice, contextual interference, guidance. Performance of a task is mentally rehearsed. Whenever possible, physical practice is preferable to mental practice for learning. When physical practice is not possible, mental practice is an effective method for augmenting learning. The scheduling of periods of work and rest. Short time frame (work and rest during 1 hour therapy session) Longer time scale (length and frequency of sessions per week) Distribution of practice within a particular experiment. Massing: running work periods very close together with either no way or very short rest intervals. Distributing: spacing work periods apart with longer rest intervals. Given constant periods of work, short rest periods degrade performance relative to performance with longer rest periods . Practice distribution have a relatively permanent effect on learning.
