PSY 101 Lecture Notes - Lecture 17: Orbitofrontal Cortex, Stressor, Controllability
Document Summary
James- lange theory: somatic theory, body leads to mind, physiology is first and is the only reason to lead to fear, stimulus- physiology response- emotion. Cannon-bard theory: stimulus- physiology and emotion work at same time, thalamus is sending information to two places, sending it up to the rest of brain and down to the body. Schachter- singer theory (2 factor model)- label and level: stimulus- physiological response-cognitive labeling- emotion, physiological response: level, how much?, how fast is my heart beating, cognitive labeling: label, what?, how much or what level am i feeling, Cognitive- appraisal theory: stimulus- cognitive appraisal- emotion, no physiological response, thinking triggers emotion. Emotions are linked with ans activity: heart rate, breathing, sweaty palms, etc. Amygdala is involved in emotion: process emotional significance of stimuli, generates immediate emotional and behavioral reactions, damage to amygdala results in impairments in dear conditioning (classical conditioning)
