Explicit memory consist of a set of concepts and links between them. Concept also refers to a set of related "exemplars" Examplars - fancy term for examples, also known as instances. Category - group of related things in the world. You activated corresponding structures in visual cortex that are associated with certain things. Sensory and motor systems are linked with your conceptual networks. Conceptual network - relationships between concepts rather than relationships between parts of an object. When one concept is activated, the activation spreads to linked concepts. Ultimately some of the links must be to sensory experiences.
