We think that art is timeless, the" beauty" of its appearance having meaning, meaning and appeal to humanity throughout the ages. This usually applies at least to our ideas about" high," or fine, art, that is, painting and sculpture. We frequently ask the following questions while looking at a painting or sculpture: These are quite valid questions that are often expected and answered in, for example, the illustration captions in art books and the works labels shown in museums and galleries. Those pieces of information are enough for many of us. The curiosity about who is pleased with who, what and when of art and we can get on with appreciating the artwork, or just enjoy looking at it. For those of us who are also interested in how, knowledge about the technique used for example, oil or tempera will help us further appreciate the artist"s skills.
