Organisms adapt to the enviro they live in. These adaptations are the result of evolution: evolution=fundamental organizing principle of bio. Biology=scientific study of life: bio"s central activities are posing questions about the living world and seeking science-based answers. We recognize/ define life by what living things do and by the attributes of cells. 7 characteristics of life: order, energy processing, growth and devel, evolutionary adaptation, regulation, reproduction, and response to the enviro. Levels of organization: biosphere, ecosystems, communities, populations, organisms, organs and organ systems, tissues, cells, organelles, molecules. 1: plants take up chemicals from the soil and air, chemicals pass to organisms that eat the plants, decomposers return chemicals to the soil. Life has been evolving on earth for billions of years, resulting in a vast diversity of past and present organisms: the scientific explanation for this unity and diversity is evolution. Evolution= the idea that the organisms living on earth today are the modified descendants of common ancestors.
