African americans deal drugs in more public places and to people they not know as well. Whites sell in private areas and to people they know. Drug use and sales are nearly the same between races. You can have much more of power cocaine vs, crack cocaine because typically (18 to 1) poor urban users use crack cocaine. Conscious and unconscious policy decision is what can change the disparity we see in our country. America"s increase in prison rate is due to policy rate because our crime rates aren"t changing too much, but our prison rate is increasing. Our crime rate is similar to other countries and their imprison rates are significantly lower. Why are african americans disproportionately represented in crime statistics: actions classified and policed harshest, harsher penalties for things black people do. What are the causes and cures of racial disparities in sentencing and imprisonment: conscious policy decisions . Zero tolerance, 3 strikes, mandatory minimums, career criminal.
