Disposition outcomes: court has power to terminate rights of parents over children (something created 100+ years ago is still used today) Effects of abuse long-term: early exposure predicts violent and antisocial behavior later. Is there an abuse-delinquency link: 70-80% of juvenile offenders have abusive backgrounds. Increased risk for mental health problems: drug abuse. 2/3 in treatment services report abuse/neglect: 9x more likely become involved in the cjs. Imporving family functioning can help prevent delinquency: court-ordered treatment. Positive role models who spend time with youth. Early childhood prevention programs: visits by trained nurses, social service personnel.
