Social dilemma= a situation in which collective interests are at odds w/ personal interests. Free riders= individuals who benefit from group assets without contributing to them: ways to combat free-rider problem: Group= small social structures composed of only a few diff status positions, relatively small numbers of occupants, relatively dense ties among positions, and clear expectations about role behaviors. You"re a usc student and not a clemson student. Consdiering all types of social structures, the most immediate structure (often groups) generally has the greatest effect. About every aspect of your beign is constrained by the groups to which you belong. Social influence= an interaction process in which one person"s behavior causes another person to change an opinion or to perform an action that he/she would not otherwise perform. 2 types: informational=a person comes to believe what others are claiming, normative= a person only pretends to believe what others are claiming in order to gain some reward or avoid some punishment.
