Document Summary

Origin attachment of a muscle on a less movable bone. Insertion attachment of the muscle on the more moveable bone. Tendon connective tissue that attaches muscle to bone cordlike in appearance. Aponeurosis connective tissue that attaches muscle to bone appearance of flat sheet. Myofilaments are specific types of microfilaments that are responsible for the shortening of muscle cells found in myofibrils. Tendon starts to thin out and cover the muscle. This entire cover of the muscle is called the epimysium. (sometimes called a sheath. ) The epimysium starts to surrounds muscle fascicles and it is then called the perimysium. Muscle fibers are in bundles called muscle fascicle. In muscle fascicles there are individual muscle fibers grouped together. The individual muscle fibers with in the muscle fascicle are surrounded by endomysium. Myofibril contracting is what allows muscles to move. Sarcoplasmic reticulum is the smooth endoplasmic reticulum in muscle but now it stores calcium.
