Released by platelets or damaged tissues or can be already present in the blood. Clot pulls damaged ends inward as platelets pull clot closer together. Plasmin is activated by cf xii and is incorporated into the clot. Slowly breaks down fibrin as endothelium heals. A disorder where the process of hemostasis does not occur properly. Hemophilia a 85%, caused by a deficiency in cf viii. Hemophilia b 15%, caused by a deficiency in cf ix. Fat soluble vitamin: made by bacteria in the colon (10%), also found in leafy green vegetables. Required for synthesis of several clotting factors and has a role in bone health. At birth, infants are given a vitamin k injection. Prevent thrombosis: formation of a clot, or thrombus, in an unbroken blood vessel. Glycolipids a and b: antigens projections off of rbcs. Antibodies: produced by immune system in response to an antigen, bind to antigens and inactivate or mark for destruction.
