Document Summary

Viral origin: could not have arisen independently, probably derived from more complex cellular organism (maybe small cell chromosome fragments), corroboration: genes are present in different viral groups but their host cells are similar to genes. Virtues: gene activities that mimic host genes: used for research to study dna/gene expression, and to introduce foreign genes in humans as treatment. Bone marrow transplants: cells extracted from pelvic bond and put in recipient: used to treat lymphomas/leukemia, patient also exposed to high radiation to kill cancer and red/white blood cells. When the blood forming cells are destroyed they are replaced by bone marrow cells which can regenerate blood tissue. The blood forming cells are hematopoietic stem cells and can reconstitute the entire hematopoietic. Adult stem cells: undifferentiated cells that can self-renew (make more cells like themselves: ex. human skin, neurons, glial cells, skeletal muscles (satellite cells)
