Inota towa heard many great things about life in america and wanted to immigrate there. Second biggest group of asian immigrants to the u. s. (19th and 20th century) Dekasegi (sojourners) - they were young and male immigrants. Had the intention to return to japan. This changed overtime since they settled down in america. They adjusted to american life but still kept their lifestyle/cultural background. Anti-japanese movements occured made it hard for the japanese immigrants to survive. Japan was threatened to open its ports. The u. s. got tired of them for not willing to trade. Used violence to try to solve this. Japan competed with european empires for new territory and trading markets. Low-class citizens were sent abroad in order to make more money. By sending money back home to their families, they were helping japan as a whole. Served as national emissariers for trading internationally. Higher taxes were imposed in order to find these programs.
