Over the next ~200 years, we developed many more ways to use/create energy. Some energy lost at each step either as energy being used or as waste heat. Steps: input extraction transportation refinement . ~50% efficiency lost between extraction, refining, and distribution. ~80% efficiency lost during conversion to power (ie. in engine) Car wheel get about 10% of the chemical energy in the oil. Imports from other countries: canada, saudi arabia, etc. Mix of clay, water, sand, and bitumen. Extract oil and natural gas from shale rock. Takes liquid and forces it down causing sedimentary rock to crack, then chemicals seep into bedrock, then toxins seep up into drinking water aquifers, __ Increasing precipitation in some areas; decreasing precipitation in others. All greenhouse gases have increased in concentration dramatically in 250-300 years. Atmospheric gas bubbles, dust, ash, etc are captured in layers of snow and ice. More fossil fuel carbon in the air.
