ENVS 010 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Asexual Reproduction, Sexual Reproduction, Cell Division
Document Summary
Carries thousands genes that contain all genetic info. We usually have them in homologous chromosomes. When they"re duplicated, they turn into the x shape. Each gamete has only one chromosome set (in humans, 23 chromosomes) Haploid sperm cell fuses with a haploid egg cell. Now has a full set of 46 chromosomes, mom has 23, dad has 23. Fertilized egg becomes a zygote and is now a diploid. Cell cycle: cells go into interface where the cells duplicate then go into mi--- and they split. Cell division into two cells and it goes through that process again. Ex. skin makes new skin when you cut yourself. Ex. going to the gym to get more muscles. The process happens twice that"s why there"s 4 daughter cells in the end instead of 2 like in mitosis. Translation: change of rna info to a protein. Studied inheritance in peas with one difference the flower color.
