GEOG 001 Lecture 37: Earthquake Safety Steps
Document Summary
There are seven steps to earthquake safety. Four steps that show what to do before an earthquake, one step for during the earthquake, and two steps for after the earthquake. By following these steps, it results in reductions in injuries, damages, and losses. The first preparation step is to identify potential hazards in your home and take precautions to get rid of them. Earthquakes involve a lot of shaking, so it"s important to secure your space by securing items that move around a lot. For instance, ensure that heavy items such as furniture, large bookshelves, big potted plants, and other heavy unstable objects are far away from places where you sit and sleep. Many people believe that injuries are usually from collapsing buildings, but unstable heavy objects are more dangerous. Aside from moving away heavy objects, you should make sure that there aren"t any water leaks or gas leaks, or flammable or hazardous spills.
