Recl 10 - lecture 1 - chapter 13: issues and challenges. Equal access to recreation and leisure should be true for all people. Still maintain majority of work in home. Parks in poor neighborhoods are less safe and receive less funding. National parks are barely accessible because they far away. Some individuals are more likely to seek out risk within their leisure behavior. Type t personality - arousal level very high = easily bored and sensation seeking. Some activities have high rates of injury/fatality. Sex has been stigmatized in american history. Despite laws against them, use of drugs is high. Visitors to natural sights can cause damage. Then vs. now -> everyone plays vs. children play. Absence of play leaves some people vulnerable. No one has full understanding of play. If its purpose is more important than the act of doing it, it"s probably not play. Play is born by curiosity and exploration.
