Document Summary

Js 15 - lecture 3 measures of central tendency. Introduction: descriptive statistics: usage of statistical analysis to describe a group of people from whom data has been collected. Divide the sum by number of people in data set. Choose the age that is in the middle. The median age for this group is 27: can tell if data is skewed (when there is an outlier) or symmetrical (when there are no outliers, mode, mode: most common number in dataset, example 4: Count how many instances there are of each age. The mode for this group is 18: if there is more than one value that is the most common value, they are both considered the mode. Skewed and symmetrical distributions: if data is skewed, mean, median, and mode are all fairly different, outlier pulls mean and median away from mode, if data is symmetrical, mean, median, and mode are about the same.
