Document Summary
Hypnosis: state of mind that occurs in compliance with instruction and consists of focused attention and lack of voluntary control. Occurs when attention regulates higher brain functions ( behaving, thinking, perceiving, and feeling) Recall woman who could not understand the concept 4 in the video; attention is affecting higher brain functioning. Brain regions really are affected by hypnosis; not a fakery" or a trick. All work by inhibiting neural transmission (inhibitory neural transmission); inhibit action potentials. Psychoactive drugs: drugs that operate on cns to alter mental activity by passing the blood- brain barrier . Essentially most classes of psychoactive drugs affect dopamine production in the nucleus accumbens (reward and addiction) which is the feel good neurotransmitter. Work to decrease cns and ans activity create physical and psychological dependence. Opiods: numbing, reduce pain (both physical and psychic) Stimulate endorphins and dopamine (feel good) create very strong physical and psychological dependence. Examples: opium, morphine, heroin (synthetic morphine) ; other synthetic ones.
