Most people think that psychology is to help people. Looking at a pie chart: half is to try to help people (clinical, the other half has nothing to do with helping people or even people. Clinical psychology: to help people that have issues or problems, gives advice, talk about things. They are all called mental help professionals; shrinks . However training & background & what they do are different: Psychology: (clinical psychologist) has a phd (doctorate) in psychology: ex: behavioral modification: focuses on your behavior and changing it. Psychiatry: never have to take a psychology course, instead you take pre- med courses. Go to medical school, and get a m. d. Psychiatry is a branch of medicine, you"ll be a specialist in medication. Psychoanalysis: someone who subscribes to freud"s idea of consciousness, name of a theory about human nature: why people are the way they are.
