Reference groups - groups that we compare ourselves to. These groups we learn norms and values from. Danger is that sometimes we follow negative reference groups. Mr. garcia likes gangsta rap music and wants to bust a cap in people when he feels disrespected. Conformity - how far does an individual follow group norms and expectations. Smaller the group, the stronger the social bonds, the weaker the group. Larger the group, the weaker the social bonds, the stronger the group. Expressive leader more concerned with group"s emotional strength and health. Democratic leader encourages group participation and decision making. Allows group to make own decisions and self manage. Authoritarian leader issues orders and assigns tasks. Asch paradigm (experiment) proved that others will conform to group behavior.
