Foundation of aba is the accurate description and measurement of behavior. Develop an efficient and effective method to measure the behavior. Importance of observing and recording behaviors: accurate measurement of behavior during baseline helps us choose an intervention, intervention procedures are defined by their effect on behavior, is your program working, judgements of behavior may be inaccurate, accountability, feedback. Identify the most relevant dimension of the behavior. Indirect assessment: gather information regarding behavior from others, do not observe directly. Continuous observation: observe for the entire duration of observation period. Time sample recordings: sample of time during the observation period. Permanent product: observe the outcome of the behavior. Anecdotal records: description of antecedents, behaviors, and consequences. Continuous event recording: every occurrence of the behavior is recorded during the observation period. Count: number of occurrence of behavior, should also record the duration of observation if need to convert to frequency.
