Document Summary

It is only in modern times that organs can be transplanted, should a patient need one. Most people only have one heart, and they need it. Example: you need a kidney and your brother is a match and willing to donate. Each acceptor must provide a (living) donor. The blood types and hla proteins for each person ill be catalogued. We can match donors with acceptors from the registry, setting up a kidney exchange. In most cases,a donor will only donate if his/her paired acceptor also receives a kidney. You have a-type blood and you need a kidney. Your donor is incompatible (she has b-type blood). Another living donor has a-type blood and is paired with an acceptor who was b-type blood. A graph is made up of vertices and edges that connect vertices. More abstractly (and these depend on your application): a vertex is often an object, an edge is a relationship between two objects.
