Document Summary

3:24 am: list and describe the structural components of viruses. Virus is a genome enclosed in a protective coat consisting of nucleic acids and in some cases a membranous envelope: explain why viruses are obligate intracellular parasites. They can reproduce only within a host cell because they lack the enzymes for metabolism or ribosomes for protein synthesis: explain how a virus recognizes its host. They identify host cells by a lock and key fit by proteins on the outside of the virus with receptors on the host surface. Phage are viruses that infect bacteria and reproduce by the two method above. Lytic cycle- the lambda infects e. coli and injects its dna which become a circle. Then the phage is synthesize in the inside until the cell explodes and the phages are released. Lysogenic cycle- when the phage dna become a circle, it integrates into the bacteria.
