Niche is the focus for specialization; ex. sub-cultures. Material/physical culture: things you can identify with. Non-material culture: no physical; how they act, behave, think and react; Aesthetics: how people see things; ex. what colors liked/disliked. Different is different adapt to the culture differences and make money off of it. Sources of cultural knowledge: use local nationals, use cultural consultants. Two rules: go for the long haul; become part of the society as a citizen, use local nationals, instead of home employees, expats: employees exported to foreign country; they don"t know the culture. Language and communications: two types: verbal: have to be careful when using words, some words don"t translate literally, non verbal (kinesics): body language (gestures, personal space, eye contact, etc. , each culture has their own principles to body language. Toughest communication skill (to americans) is to shut up and listen!
