CWL 305 Lecture 10: How to Discuss Peer Work in Workshop (1)

20 views3 pages

Document Summary

Workshop is a space where students bring in raw material: drafts of works in progress. When we critique these pieces, it is important to keep in mind that these are first drafts. We will discuss what literary techniques are working and not yet working in student pieces. As a group, we will discuss the piece"s strengths and weaknesses with the goal of helping the author make his or her story the best it can be. When work is read in the professional world, the author is not there to defend or explain his/her intentions. I will politely remind you, should you forget. At the end of the allotted time, the author will get to ask up to two follow up questions. This is not a space for the author to defend or explain. Simply ask. (ie: can you elaborate on the lack of tension on pg 2? ) A space for the author to receive thoughtful, constructive feedback.
