Document Summary
Terms: eight characteristics of dance, intercultural, melting pot, primal/basic, traditional dance, ethnic dance, folk dance, choreometrics. Eight characteristics of dance- can be universal of all types of dance. 1. use of the human body- the body is the instrument through which movement is communicated. 2. extends through time-duration-the time frame on how long it takes the event to occur. A few minutes to several hours depending on the dance/event. 3. exists in space- the area designated for the dance of the event to occur. Spatial design- movement patterns made within the designated area ( travels, moves) movement travels**** Kinesphere- the performer"s personal movement space based on a fixed or semi fixed point in an area: exists in force- energy applied to the movement. Effort and shape(e/s)- effort is how much energy you give to movement and shape is how the body moves itself in space or in the space. Movement qualities- sustained, suspension, strong, percussive and quick.
