China has the world biggest population, with over 1. 7 billion people. China has been thought of themselves as the center of the world (ethnocentrism). Standard chinese is the official language, however mandarin has many different variations. Imperial china- longest lasting, oldest centralized state in human history (221 bc- 1911 ad). Ancient pre-cursors go back to c. 2100 bc. Qin shi huang was the first emperor of china. Struggle for order: 1911-1949 china occupied and they were internally weak (subject to western influence and the arrival of the modern world) The communist revolution- the beginnings of modern china. The policies of the communist party now in contemporary china follow from the experience of communist rule in the earlier years.
