Ppl who ruminate more report more symptoms of depression. Shows that it is true for both girls & boys. B/c girls ruminate more, they will end up w/more symptoms of depression. Parents encourage the expression of sadness & anxiety more in girls. Parents pay more attention when girls feel sad or anxious. Women are reared to base self-esteem on what others think of them.
