Outcome: participants wanted to wait with others who were to be shocked. An unpleasant emotional and cognitive state based on desiring close relationships but lacking them. 3 types: intimate, relational, and collective: relational: when someone wants but lacks friendship, collective: when you want but lack a group or community to belong to. More apparent in transitions or disruptions in your life: transitions: going to college, disruptions: break-up, divorce, end of a friendship, family member moving away. Associated effect of emotion: sometimes your emotions can affect the way you feel about someone. If you are with someone when something really good happens, you associate those positive emotions with that person. Proximity: physical closeness predicts attractions: ex. College students that live in the same dorm. Exposure: more often we are exposed to something, more we like it. People in a relationship resemble each other more in these categories than if you were to pair two random people together: attitude.
