Document Summary
Percepion of edge: contrast enhancement: a mechanism in the visual system that enhances percepion of brightness contrast between two areas. Lateral inhibiion: enhancing the efect of a cell behavior by inhibiing neighboring cells. We perceive color through the response rate of 3 types of cones. 3 kinds of cones: s (blue/purple), m (green), l (red: opponent process theory. 3 sets of cells that perceive colors in opposing pairs. If one color is acivated, its pair is inhibited. Occurs at all levels of visual system beyond receptors. Evidence: complimentary aterimage: sensory systems show adaptaion. Dark adaptaion: opposing pair more noiceable when image is seen longer because of adaptaion. Ex. red receptors adaping = less inhibiion of its pair (green)
