Of alcohol is metabolized in women so more alcohol is in the blood stream. Women get cirrhosis faster than in men. In the 90s the ration is 2. 5:1 for men to women dependency in alcohol. Women and men are more likely to use and abuse alcohol. Girls used to take their first drink later than boys since 90s but now its around the same age. For most drugs except for legal ones men are more likely to use and abuse. Women have higher dosage than men on prescription meds. Women more likely to be on anti depression and anxiety meds. Overdose because women taking antidepressants and anti anxiety and then take opioids can lead to death. Women that abuse substances are more likely to have a partner that does too and can increase risk of stds. War on drugs= more women in jail. Other countries do needle trade in or methadone. 10-25% of women in the us abuse a substance.
