About 80% of what we know about brain function comes from animal studies because serotonin-hippocampus from animal studies. Most of our ideas about change was first in animal studies as well. 90% or more of animal models of human diseases are done in rats or mice. Monkeys have been used but they are not so commonly used now. Concern about if monkeys are valuable animals. People also use lower forms like fish (zebra fish, gold fish) Translational- very important part of any animal model. Is the work you are doing really going to translate to being useful in humans. Construct validity means that model is constructed or made in the same way we think it arises in humans. If we think stress in children causes stress later on. Observing something in human population you can test it and see if it is true. You have to have both construct and face validity.
